SIMON Gallanders hit the only goal of the game to give Prestwich three valuable points against fellow strugglers Thornleigh.

The win came at a cost as the side suffered yet more injuries, with Jordi Belston going off with a broken collar bone, and Gallanders himself leaving the fray on 55 minutes with a pulled hamstring.

Thornleigh started in a lively fashion with Mike Neary a constant menace with his skill and pace playing on the shoulders of the last man supported by Jordan Belston, Tito Miguel and Gallanders.

Having come close on several occasions, Prestwich got their goal on 17 minutes.

Miguel’s slaloming run at the defence took him deep into the visitors’ territory.

He threaded a ball through to Gallanders lurking on the right-hand edge of the box who used the space to evade a man and drill the ball into the net.

Minutes later Gallanders almost made it 2-0 but he hit the inside of the post, the ball skewing agonisingly across the goal and out to safety.

The rest of the game was an incredibly tense affair, though Prestwich’s stand-in keeper Richard Steadman was well protected by the defence.

Dave Thompson nearly sealed victory when Neary picked him out but fired straight at the keeper. And with Thornleigh running out of ideas they saw out the win.

Elsewhere, Bury GSOB suffered a 3-1 defeat at title-challenging Burnley Belvedere.
