PHILLIPS High School pupil Kian Monaghan is the new British blackball pool under-15s champion.

It was the first national title for the 14-year-old, of Radcliffe, who learned to play at Savannah’s in Whitefield

Kian revved up for the national championships with his first appearance on the international stage, helping England finish runners up to Wales in the Nations Cup in Northern Ireland last month.

The teenager was handed a doubles spot in England’s three-man team, representing his country alongside Alfie Lee, son of professional snooker player Stephen Lee.

Kian started playing pool aged 11 and was picked for Savannah’s men’s team by the time he was 12.

After impressing on the local circuit, the teenager was asked to try out for Lancashire and made the county team last year.
