STAND made it a magnificent seven wins out of seven as they continued their unbeaten start to the season with another couple of victories at the weekend.

The Higher Lane men remain top of Division Two of the Greater Manchester Cricket League after beating bottom side South West Manchester by 56 runs on Saturday.

And they booked their place in the second round of the Derek Kay Per-Fit First XI Cup following a mammoth 225-run victory at home to Division Four East's Rochdale Catholic Club.

Stand's batsmen got off to a relatively slow start at South West Manchester in their league game on Saturday before posting a total of 196-8.

Alex Beirne kept the innings together with a gritty 38 while Matt Curphey scored 35 on a tough deck.

There were also contributions from veteran captain Stuart Catterall (28) and newly-restored opener Luke Davison (20).

The hosts were always behind the run-rate before being bowled out for 140.

Curphey (3-23), Ben McManuss (3-25) and professional Ali Azmat (3-40) each took three wickets.

The bedrock of Sunday's cup win was a huge total of 370.

Azmat led the way with 97, while Dinesh Ateeq hit 82, Curphey made 43 and Matt McGladdery added 35.

Skipper for the day Alex Beirne used all 10 bowlers, including himself, and the opposition were restricted to 145.

Azmat was the star of the bowling attack, taking 4-2 from four overs.
