PRESTWICH Heys manager Jon Lyons has confirmed the signing of seven new players as his summer revamp begins to take shape.

After going on record as saying his side had underachieved in the Manchester League Premier Division last season, the Heys boss has been busy recruiting to strengthen his squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Lyons has raided league rivals Walshaw with strike duo Lee Bruce and Jon Stephenson joining defender John Blackley at Heys Road. Full-back Craig Thomas has also joined from near neighbours Elton Vale, Dalton McLaughlin and Max White from AFC Monton and Chris Quirke from Eagle Sport.

In making the signings Lyons said: "I am pleased and excited for the new season with our new additions to the squad. This is a massive plus for us and to add them to our existing squad is brilliant after a disappointing finish to last season.

"Training has gone very well and I can't wait to get started."

The Heys manager has not finished yet either saying: "I hope to complete another three or four significant signings in the next week or so. I am looking for a strong campaign and seeing us challenging for honours."

Preparations for the new season gather pace on Saturday as Heys kick off their pre-season fixtures programme at Tottington United, kick off 2pm.

The game is part of an extensive, wide ranging build up to the new campaign that combines friendlies with games in the Kenyon cup, Atherton Charity Cup and Bolton Hospital Cup.

The defence of the Kenyon Cup starts on Wednesday with a trip to Breightmet United in the first group game, kick off 6.30pm.

Heys have confirmed arrangements for the home fixture with FC United of Manchester on July 21. Admission is £5 for adults and £2 concessions.
