PRESTWICH Heys’ scheduled trip to Nelson in the Hallmark Security League First Division North last Saturday was postponed.

The wintry weather left the pitch at the hosts home ground of Little Wembley frozen and covered in snow.

Both clubs have moved quickly to rearrange the game and it will now be played on Saturday, March 2, kick off 3pm.

That both sides had a free day available is a sign of the largely kind conditions that have prevailed so far this season.

It was only Heys’ second postponement of the campaign and they have only 11 games left to play. At this stage last season they had 23 and played their last 11 games between April 18 and May 12.

Heys have a tough task as they look to return to action on Saturday, hosting league leaders Longridge Town at Adie Moran Park (kick off 3pm).

The Lancashire side are in their first season in the competition but have led from the front since the start on the back of some free-scoring victories that has seen them score 106 goals in 27 games.

Their impressive strike force includes Richie Allen, who many may remember for his goal for Salford City against Notts County in the FA Cup on live television a couple of years back.

Heys go into the game in fifth place and while promotion looks beyond them, they still have much to play for, with a top-four spot securing a place in the FA Cup for next season.

It looks like being a tight battle to secure one of those spots with second-placed AVRO, AFC Liverpool and Lower Breck all in the mix. Heys have still to travel to AVRO while the two Merseyside teams must visit Prestwich before the campaign ends.
