Prestwich suffered a hangover from their 7-0 demolition of their Lancashire Amateur Leage Division One rivals Hesketh Casuals when they hosted seventh placed Rossendale.

Falling behind to an early strike hit low to the corner of Scott Gibbon’s goal, Lee Metcalfe’s men struggled to find any rhythm against a good Rossendale side.

Prestwich found it difficult to create any decent chances and, as the match wore on, it seemed that the visitors’ solitary goal would be enough for them to claim the three points.

But with just six minutes remaining, the home side’s luck finally turned when Curtis Ward’s shot was diverted over the line by a defender.

The point kept Prestwich top of the division regardless of Hesketh’s result due to their inferior goal difference, but when news filtered through that they could only draw 2-2 at Tyldesley United. Prestwich remained two points clear of their nearest title rivals.

Third placed Prairie United also made ground to within two points of Prestwich but have played three more games than the Heys Road side.

Prestwich Reserves continued their winning ways in their title charge with a 5-1 success in Southport against Hesketh Casuals A.

Goals from Anthony Lewis, Kieran Doherty and a hat-trick for 36- goal striker Jordan Clegg, gave Liam Morrissey’s men the three points.

Prestwich A and Prestwich Sunday teams had no games at the weekend. The Sunday team’s game against AFC Woolpack was cancelled due to the opposition not being able to raise a team. They subsequently resigned from the league.
