Bury ended up as losing Murray Shield semi-finalists after being caught cold by a first-minute goal from Monton.

Manchester League Division One table toppers Bury found themselves chasing the game and were never really able to stretch the Monton defence often enough to suggest a turn around was on the cards.

Virtually from kick off Haughton broke down the right wing, skinned Mayo and was left with far too much time and space to pick his spot to slot in to the left of Gav Campbell’s goal.

Ten minutes into the second half Monton scored a somewhat fortuitous second when a shot from Bradshaw cannoned off the back of Carinci’s leg into the net.

Nuttall in midfield was one of the few Bury players to have a good game and in spite of a late rally inspired by Blake’s introduction Monton held on comfortably.
