PRESTWICH Heys produced a superb performance to keep up their promotion push with a 3-1 victory at Atherton LR.

Heys manager Jon Lyons saw his team’s promotion hopes all but ended by defeat at Crilly Park last season but they proved far too strong for their hosts this time around with a superb performance of pace and power to record a fourth win in eight days.

Lyons made seven changes to the starting side from Saturday’s 3-0 win against Eccleshall and with Sven Gibson and Jacob Holt leading a strong rearguard Heys unleashed a bombardment on the home goal.

Ash Stott was the first to find a chink in the home defence but could not steer the ball past LR keeper Louis Murray.

Moments later John Main fired over and Jamie Baguley’s header came off the bar, Main putting his follow-up just wide.

Main sent another effort off-target, and one was deflected wide, and Gibson cleared the bar with a header in a dominant first half.

Lee Bruce was denied by the assistant’s flag before the breakthrough came on the hour mark when Danny White’s header found Stott in space and he made no mistake.

After Bruce’s shot was cleared off the line the second goal came on 77 minutes. Max White, set up a race between Rio Wilson-Heyes, Murray and an LR defender and as the home pair got in a muddle, Wilson-Heyes chipped in from 25 yards.

White completed a good night’s work with a third goal, drilled into the bottom corner.

LR’s Ben Giverin slotted home a consolation in stoppage time but the game had been won by that stage.

Chris Baguley, Stott and Main had all found the net in Heys’ first home match on a Saturday in 2018 as they saw off Eccleshall 3-0.

Heys’ busy schedule takes them to AFC Blackpool on Saturday (kick off 3pm) before a huge game on Easter Monday sees second-placed Litherland REMYCA visit Adie Moran Park (3pm).

On Wednesday night (April 4), Heys go to Chadderton (7.45pm).
