REIGNING champions Prestwich closed the gap on Lancashire Amateur League leaders Old Boltonians when they put nine goals past struggling Hesketh Casuals for the second time this season.

Sean Haslam netted four while Ashford Blake’s brace included a 40-yard lob over the Hesketh goalkeeper.

Other goals from Lee Bushell, Jason Garside and Tom Walsh completed the rout and repeated the scoreline from the first meeting of the two teams in October.

And with Old Bolts held to a 2-2 draw after a stunning Jon Maylon equaliser for Tottington United with the last kick of the game, Prestwich are now closing in at the top.

They now sit third, 16 points behind the leaders but with seven games in hand.

Boss Craig Howarth told The Guide: “It’s the second time we have won 9-1 against Hesketh and it was a great display.

“They got one back to make it 4-1 at half time but it was a drubbing in the second half.

“The fact Old Bolts drew gives us some breathing space now, as long as we win our games in hand.”

Prestwich now have back-to-back league games against Little Lever either side of a First XI cup clash with Tyldesley United.
