SEDGLEY Tigers coach Geoff Roberts expects his side to put on a show in Saturday’s must-win clash with Manchester rivals Sale.

The fixture is doubling up as a reunion, with all former players invited to attend the match and enjoy a get-together beforehand.

It was expected there would be a lot riding on the game, but while Sedgley go into fixture third in the National Two North, they are 18 points behind Sale.

Victory for the visitors would see them clinch second place and the divisional play-off spot, with four games still to play.

And while Roberts admits the most his side can now probably hope for is a third-place finish, he would still like to see his players keep fighting.

“Our lads will want to put in a good performance in front of all our former players, but I don’t think they need any extra motivation,” he said.

“This is a true derby between the only two Manchester clubs in this division.

“So I would expect a real competitive edge to it, regardless of where the two sides are in the table.

“It does look as if Sale will beat us to second place, but that does not mean we are about to hand it to them on a plate in front of our home support.

“We want to make sure we finish no lower than third and aim to win our final five matches to guarantee we achieve that.

“If that puts a little extra pressure on Sale in the run-in then all the better.”
