TWO local sporting clubs may finally get a result following a visit from the Government.

Sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe went to Prestwich Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club where he heard about their plans to expand the tennis facilities and redevelop the pavilion.

He then visited Sedgley Park rugby club to watch their match, and learned of their ambition to build a new all-weather pitch.

Mr Sutcliffe was accompanied by Ivan Lewis, MP for Bury South, who said: "He heard about the tremendous work the rugby club does with young people, schools and the community," said Mr Lewis. "Their youth development work is remarkable, with hundreds of youngsters involved every week."

Mr Sutcliffe said he will try and help both organisations with their search for appropriate funding from various sports bodies."
