A VIDEO has been officially launched to help a disabled Bury youngster — featuring Prestwich and Whitefield police officers, their boss, and the cast of a TV drama.

Chief Constable Peter Fahy and stars from ITV1’s Scott & Bailey joined the area’s neighbourhood policing team to show off their best Gangnam dance moves to raise money for Joshua Wilson.

The 12-year-old, who studies at Elms Bank High in Whitefield, was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of three, and now has severe neuromuscular disabilities which require extensive adaptations to his home in Walshaw Road, Bury, so he can be cared for.

The Prestwich and Whitefield officers are following in the footsteps of colleagues in Devon and Cornwall who earlier this year put together a spoof version of “Gangnam Style”. Their video quickly became an internet sensation and led to hundreds of people pledging donations.

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) film continues the Gangnam theme and also features the Chief Constable fronting a mock press conference to help track down one of GMP’s most notorious villains — played by Joshua.

Inspector Mark Kenny, from the Prestwich and Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Joshua loves the police and when he got in touch to see if there was anything we could do to help, we were only too happy to help out.

“Devon and Cornwall did a fantastic job with their video but, being based in Joshua’s home town, we were keen to take it one step further and involve him in our production.

“I think it’s safe to say that none of us will be auditioning for Strictly Come Dancing anytime soon but we had a great time producing the video and Joshua was certainly the star of the show.

“The aim of this video is to help raise awareness of Joshua, so if our dancing and acting abilities have made you smile then please dig deep and help get him the home he deserves.”

Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: “Everyone knows that I had the talent and the looks to be a Daniel Craig but I chose the path of becoming a police officer instead. Now finally I have had the chance to show my acting and dancing prowess and the public can see what Hollywood missed.”

Dawn Fidler, Joshua's mum, said: "We are totally overwhelmed by the support of GMP and everyone involved. Joshua has just loved being a part of this and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their time and support in raising awareness for Joshua.”

His family needs to raise £25,000 to pay for a ceiling track hoist, and other special building work and equipment.

The video can be viewed on GMP’s YouTube channel, GMPTV, or on www.gmp.police.uk.
