TWO former members of staff at Bury FC have secured employment tribunal awards against the beleaguered club.

One is Andrew Tower, who was the head of coaching for The Shakers until the club went under. He has continued to question his pension entitlements from The Bury Football Club Limited since he was let go.

And the other is Mrs C Lewis, who is understood to have worked for the club for some time.

In separate rulings, Employment Judge Slater has awarded differing sums to Mr Tower and Mrs Lewis.

For Mrs Lewis, Judge Slater ruled unauthorised deductions had been made from her wages, due to the failure to pay her for work done in August 2019. An award of £828 was made.

And for a successful breach of contract claim, Mrs Lewis is entitled to £2,295.

Her redundancy dismissal claim, also accepted, qualifies her for a £4,876 payment. Another holiday pay breach adds £1,243 to that total.

Judge Slater said Mr Tower was entitled to a redundancy payment of £961.

The tribunal judge adjourned Mrs Lewis’ further unfair dismissal claim, and a number of unspecified complaints by Mr Tower, for further hearings later.

Other cases heard by the same tribunal have resulted in payouts for ex-Bury FC staff over the past two years.

Ex-lottery collector Keith Hitchen was sacked after 13 years service. Club officials dismissed him for ‘gross misconduct’ after he didn’t agree to be paid in arrears and submit petrol claims for approval.

An employment judge ruled he had been unfairly dismissed as Mr Hitchen had been “ambushed” with new terms.

Judge Sherilyn Warren awarded him £16,678 and later ordered the club to pay legal costs of £1,980. Another staff member was awarded £10,694 for a successful unfair dismissal case and £7,868 in compensation in April 2018.
