RESIDENTS in Prestwich have been left without water for a number of hours following a leak on Downham Crescent.

The incident was first reported on Tuesday evening with householders complaining that water was coming out of taps at a trickle or not at all.

The incident was still ongoing by 12pm on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "A leak on Downham Crescent affecting customers in M25, has been spotted and reported to us.

"We’ve been out to investigate and found this to be the cause for some of you having no water or just a trickle.

"Our leakage engineers should be on site as soon as possible. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and hope to have your taps flowing again very soon.

"Our water on wheels tankers will be in the area to restore some supplies to the area."

Cllr Alan Quinn, Labour councillor for the Sedgley Ward in Prestwich, tweeted: "I've just spoken to @unitedutilities about the mains water supply issues around the Windsor Rd area Prestwich. Engineers are now on site and the problem will be rectified ASAP."
