A JUDGE has given a young man a warning after he was caught with a Taser during a police raid.

Jake Paul Harris, 22, had tried to insist that the stun gun had been left at his home following a house party, Minshull Street Crown Court was told.

But he did not stick to that story and was sentenced by Judge Sophie McKone after abandoning a trial of issue yesterday.

Harris, of Argyll Street, Bury, who admitted to possession of an offensive weapon capable of emitting an electric charge, was given a 12-month prison term, suspended for 18 months.

He was also told he must complete 150 hours of community service and attend 35 rehabilitation activity days with the probation service.

Police discovered the Taser in the bedroom of Harris during routine enquiries on another matter, the court heard on a previous occasion.

Prosecutor David Lees said Harris had admitted to police he had bought the Taser, which had originally been manufactured in the United States, online. His fingerprints were found on the device following forensic tests.

Mr Lees said the defendant had told officers at the time that they might find something of interest before they even searched the wardrobe.
