AN inquest has opened into the death of a retired HGV driver from Bury.
Steven Sykes, 59, died at the Royal Oldham Hospital on May 8 2020.
Salford-born Mr Sykes, of Sycamore Drive, Bury, was a divorcee with one daughter.
At Rochdale Coroner's Office, police corner's officer, Paul Lever, said Mr Sykes was admitted to Royal Oldham Hospital on May 6 for an elective procedure for a colonic cancer.
The procedure was completed that morning but the next day his condition deteriorated.
Mr Sykes underwent a CT head scan which showed he had suffered a stroke and he deteriorated further overnight and sadly died on May 8.
Mr Lever said the cause of death had not yet been ascertained.
Coroner Julie Robertson set a review date for June 25 2020 with an inquest to take place at a later date.
