FANS of post-punk band The Fall will get the chance to hear a raft of unreleased songs thanks to a new reissue of one of their albums.

The band, who were led by long-term Prestwich resident Mark E Smith, ended in 2018 following the death of Smith aged 60, who formed the group in 1976.

The Fall were noted for their prolific output and released over 30 studio albums. They never achieved widespread public success beyond a handful of minor hit singles in the late 1980s, but maintained a strong cult following.

The band were long associated with BBC DJ John Peel, who championed them from early on in their career and cited The Fall as his favourite band, famously explaining: “They are always different; they are always the same.”

One of the band's later albums, 2007's Reformation! Post TLC, has just been reissued by the Cherry Red record label, with the new version featuring two bonus discs of demos, early rough mixes and alternate versions, as well as a fourth disc; the Live at Hammersmith Palais album.

The album features Smith and his wife, Elena, with newcomers Tim Presley and Rob Barbato, Orpheo McCord and Dave Spurr. Presley, Barbato and McCord, all Americans, joined the band as emergency replacements for Ben Pritchard, Spencer Birtwistle and Steve Trafford, all of whom quit the band during an American tour in April 2006.

Writing in the reissue's sleeve notes, long-term Fall expert, Daryl Easlea, said: "Reformation! Post TLC completes a trilogy of The Fall's career best-equalling albums in the 00s.

"If there was any question that The Fall could continue into the 21st century, Reformation! Post TLC not only made it clear, but underlined how well it could".
