BURY COUNCIL is to be given more than £5 million by the Government to help deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
The cash comes from an £89 million emergency pot given to help local authorities in Greater Manchester tackle the crisis — as part of a £1.6 billion package set up by the UK Government.
However, despite the cash boost, Bury is to receive the lowest amount of any GM council — some £5,364,298.
Announcing the funding last month, Local Government Secretary, Robert Jenrick said: “The work of local authorities to deliver social care and other vital public services has never been more important than it is now – and will be – in the days and weeks ahead.”
“That’s why we’re giving local councils £1.6 billion of additional funding to spend where it’s needed most, to ensure they can meet the cost of the increased demand for social care, and continue to protect the most vulnerable people in society.”
Here’s how much each council in the region will receive from the £89,791,659 allocation:
Manchester – £18,589,281
Wigan – £10,464,897
Bolton – £9,251,398
Salford – £8,910,681
Stockport – £8,275,834
Oldham – £7,641,407
Tameside – £7,675,303
Rochdale – £7,499,857
Trafford – £6,118,593
Bury – £5,364,298
