AN OLYMPIC Gold medallist dropped by a Whitefield school to help give pupils a health boost.

Team GB cycling star, Steven Burke, visited pupils at Higher Lane Primary School to give an inspirational assembly on the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.

Youngsters also got a chance to hold Steven's haul of Gold medals as the athlete chatted about his Olympic experiences and shared his challenging training routine.

Bury Times:

Steven said: “I had a fantastic time with the children, they were an absolute delight.

"It was great to talk to them about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to prepare your own meals.

"Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports.”

The visit was arranged as part of a partnership with Whitefield's new Aldi supermarket and its Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative.

The scheme hopes to inspire thousands of school children to learn more about the benefits cooking fresh, healthy food with their families.

In addition to supporting Higher Lane, Aldi is also donating surplus food to L'Chaim Foodbank, Foodcycle Prestwich and Bury Homeless Project.

Aldi Store Manager, Tessa Atkinson, said: "I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to support a local primary school through our partnership with Team GB.”
