POLICE have issued a warning after a rise in the number of burglaries involving lock snapping.
The Bury North neighbourhood policing team has shared advice with residents following an increase in the number of break-ins involving the burglary technique.
Lock snapping involves breaking a cylinder in two by applying force and exposing the internal mechanism.
Officers have advised that residents purchase and fit anti-lock snapping barrels from an approved and registered locksmith.
GMP Bury North posted on Facebook: "Residents should be aware of a recent increase in the number of lock snapping burglaries across the Bury area.
"Lock snapping is a technique in which the cylinder of the lock is snapped in two by applying a certain amount of force to it and therefore leaving the lock open to tampering which can eventually lead to offenders gaining entrance to the property.
"Lock snapping is simple to prevent by purchasing and fitting anti-lock snapping barrels. We recommend using an approved and registered locksmith for this you can find an approved and registered locksmith at https://crowd.in/9rQQ8u.
