Two people were arrested on suspicion of drug driving and a "wanted man" has been "detained" after a police road operation in Bury today, Monday.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers were stationed on Rochdale Road for five hours as part of "Operation Considerate".

As well as the arrests and a "wanted man" being detained, the force said a total of 20 motorists were reported after being accused of using their phone.

And 22 were reported after allegedly not using a seatbelt.

A Mercedes driver, reported to have been stopped by police for using a mobile phone, was found to have 10 points on their diving licence and now could be facing a driving ban.

The driver then allegedly asked police to be let off with a warning which officers did not do.

Officers also reported the driver of a 40 tonne HGV who was allegedly using their mobile phone.

A police spokesperson said: "A person vs a 40 tonne HGV.

"No one would stand a chance in a accident, if the driver of the HGV was distracted using their mobile phone.

"Lucky for the driver we prevented that potential fatal and reported him for his mobile phone misuse."

Reflecting on the operation, a GMP spokesperson said: "What a day!
