Two cockerels were stolen from a community farm in Bury on Christmas Day.

Thieves targeted Pimhole Community Farm just after 6pm on Christmas Day with CCTV images showing two hooded individuals on the site.

Two rare breed cockerels, believed to be worth around £50 each, were stolen.

Stuart Andrews, who runs the farm, said: “They stole two rare breed Brahma cockerels and worth about £50 each and one or two hens have gone.

“I’m just annoyed because they come here and steal things and the poor animals haven’t done any harm.”

The School Street farm is widely known for its community projects, which involves giving young people across Bury the chance to meet the animals and learn about agricultural life.

It is not the first time thieves have targeted the farm this year.

In July, two people broke in and stole a turkey.

Stuart added: “Since the turkey was stolen, we moved the hens into the stables and put locks on.

“I’m not a lover of locks because if there’s a fire or anything you need to get that door open very quick.

"We put locks on the hen shed now but one of the locks was broken off on the bottom shed and that’s where the two rare breed cockerels were.

“I’m almost sure it’s the same people who stole the turkey.

“We didn’t pay for the cockerels, they came after some people brought them here for us to look after them.

“They weren’t wanting them back, we just took them in and looked after them so we don’t know if we’ll get anymore. It’s just very disheartening.”

Police have been informed about the break-in and are due to visit the farm tomorrow, Thursday.
