A CUMBRIAN health chief has urged caution ahead of the next easement of Covid lockdown measures.

From Monday, people will be able to meet in private homes, as well as pubs, bars and restaurants in England which will be able to open indoors.

Weddings, receptions and other events can take place with up to 30 people.

The number of people attending funerals will depend on the size of the venue.

Positive cases in the county have also remained low but have been subject to fluctuation.

In the last seven days Government data shows that 25 people throughout the county have been infected with the virus.

Colin Cox, the county's director or public health, said: "The numbers of cases are low generally speaking, but we need to be cautious because the number continue to fluctuate.

"We should not get ahead of ourselves in terms of the national guidance because in many places it is rising again.

"It is therefore critical that we don't go back to the situation earlier in the year.

"The numbers have been low compared to other parts of the country we are doing very well but the numbers bounce around a bit and on Sunday there was the highest number of cases reported for quite some time.

"It's fantastic that lockdown is due to be eased next week but we need to continue to be cautious."

As things stand currently a Government-commissioned review will report on whether to continue social distancing measures such as the two-metre rule, wearing face masks and working from home on June 17.
