ALMOST £7,000 has been raised to support the family of a young mother found dead in Prestwich.

Officers were called at around 12.15pm on Sunday, February 21 to Sherbourne Court, Prestwich, following reports of the sudden death of a woman.

Emergency services attended and Kimberley McAssey, 29, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

A fundraiser page has been set up following Ms McAssey's death with the aim of "doing everything we can to support her family during this heartbreaking time".

The gofundme page, created by Nicole Harrington, reads: “Due to the devastating news about our beautiful Kimberley we are trying to do everything we can to support her family during this heartbreaking time.

“Any donations towards would be greatly appreciated. All donations for Kimberley McAssey the most beautiful and amazing mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, sister-in-law and friend will be transferred by myself to my mother and father-in-law as a support during such a devastating time.

“I can only imagine the shock and how overwhelmed they will be with the response we have received so far.

“As we are all aware Kim was the light in any room, the soul of a party, the joy in laughter and for that I truly believe she will be with everyone she has touched forever and a day.

“Kimberley will live on through memory and word but most of all through her beautiful daughter Maddison who is a mini Kimberley and has been so, so strong during this time.

“Kimberley was so family oriented as this is how she has been brought up and for her to know how much support her mother Karrie, father Michael, brother Michael, brother Bradley and sister Katie have and will receive from all of her loved ones, past and present friends and how many lovely messages people have written to her and about her will only be something she would have hoped for in these circumstances.

“I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart on behalf of myself and Kimberley's beautiful family for the donations and messages. We never imagined the campaign would be as successful as it has been which is just a small token of the love people have for Kimberley.

“As we are all aware with the current circumstances, we are unable to give Kimberley the send-off we truly would have wanted.

“However, we will update as soon as possible with information regarding Kimberley’s funeral. If all of Kimberley’s family and friends could send me an email with a special memory of Kimberley or a funny time they had with Kimberley and a possible picture to ensure these are all present on the day as a support and comfort to Kimberley’s beautiful family on such a difficult day. Thank you so much.”
