Demolition work has begun at the site of an iconic town centre building to start work on a new project.
The replacement of the YMCA building in Deansgate with a new £6.1 million project has started after many months of waiting.
Half the facade has already been taken down, with work quickly being done to take down the rest of the building.
The building is set to make way for a new five-storey YMCA building – promising a massive boost for young adults in the town.
It is to be called 'Y-pad', and will provide independent living space for young people.
It will transform YMCA’s existing community and drop-in centre on Deansgate to create 40 self-contained apartments for young people in Bolton, aged between 18 and 25.
The demolition of the building is expected to be finished by March with construction work on the new project scheduled to start soon after in April with an anticipated completion date of January 2022.
Y-Pad’s ground floor will house Bolton Y-Zone, enabling the continuation of YMCA Bolton’s youth services as well as operating a food bank.
