HEAVY rain caused a small landslip today reiterating long-standing concerns among local residents.
Pictures from the building site in Blackburn Road, just before Longworth Lane, show that a significant amount of land has slipped down the steep embankment, taking a tree with it.
The issue was quickly reported by local councillors with council officers deeming the site to be causing no immediate safety issues, however, it will be continued to be monitored.
Ward councillor John Walsh, said heavy rainfall had the potential of causing a "serious situation" at the site and is being monitored by the council's planning enforcement teams.
One local resident, who asked not to be named, said: "When they started digging a friend who lived behind went and tried to tell them that this area was part of the Pendleton fault which runs all the way along that area stretching from Walmsley church yard through Longworth Clough.
"People who walk past have been watching the land sliding down and the fault line is perfectly visible from the opposite side of the road.
"The tree must have fallen in overnight. Mature trees seem destined to follow.
"When we had the ice a week or so ago the whole road was covered in thick ice formed mainly by the run off of water from the site."
