Another Wanderers legend has received their coronavirus vaccine in Bolton.

Wyn Davies, who played 155 times for Bolton, scoring 66 goals, as well as representing Wales received his vaccination at Avondale Health Centre off Chorley Old Road on Tuesday to the delight of the staff.

The 78-year-old follows fellow Wanderers legend and England international Tommy Banks, 90, who played in the 1958 FA Cup winning side alongside Nat Lofthouse and Doug Holden, beating Manchester United 2-0 at Wembley, in receiving their vaccine in Bolton.

The news was shared by the Bolton GP Federation who said they were honoured to welcome Davies in to receive his vaccine.

They said: "We were honoured to have another former Bolton Wanderers player and Welsh International, Wyn Davies, come to get his vaccine today."

A Bolton GP Federation spokesman said that they have been running clinics over the last week and this week at Avondale Health Centre vaccinating up to 500 people a day.

They have been prioritising the over 80s mainly but have started to book appointments for the over 70s, such as Wyn, and care and health staff.

Davies played as a centre-forward for Wanderers joining from Wrexham in 1962 for £22,000 earning the nickname ‘Wyn the Leap’ because of his heading ability.

He played until 1966 before Newcastle United paid a club record £80,000 for him and he was a member of their Fairs Cup-winning team.

Davies later went on to play for Manchester City and United, Blackpool and Stockport County.

He also played 34 times for Wales, 16 of those times being earned while with the Wanderers.
