A WEATHER warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms has been extended to the North West by the Met Office.

Downpours are expected and could lead to some sudden flooding and travel disruption, the weather service warned.

These storms will be 'hit and miss' but where they do occur could result in lightening, hailstones and a lot of rain falling in a short amount of time.

Due to light winds they may also be slow to clear.

Messenger Newspapers:

After a wet weekend and start to the week heavy and thundery showers were expected to clear to sunny spells by this afternoon.

However, similar showers will work their way northwards through this evening and into tonight.

Cloud and fog patches are also possible, the Met Office warned.

Tomorrow, a cloudy morning with spells of rain — some heavier and perhaps thundery — will give way from the south with sunnier weather developing.
