TRIBUTES have continued to pour in for a Bolton schoolboy whose body was found in the River Irwell.

Adam Kay was found in the water near Clifton Country Park in Salford on Tuesday, June 2 following a huge search operation involving dozens of emergency response vehicles.

The 14-year-old was a pupil at Harper Green School, in Farnworth and teachers and staff have paid moving and emotional tributes to the teenager.

Addressing students on the school’s Facebook page, headteacher Stephen Gribbon said: “The loss of Adam has devastated our entire community. It feels incredibly cruel that someone so full of life and so young should be taken from us and not given the chance to fulfill his potential.

“Adam was loved by so many of you and it has been heartening to read the beautiful tributes that you and your teachers have written.

“I am so sorry that during this pandemic we are unable to be together in school supporting each other. It’s not fair that when you need a hug from a friend more than ever you are unable to see them, place a supportive hand on their shoulder or hear them face to face tell you that ‘I am here for you’.

“I am proud that Adam was a student of Harper Green and I hope that over the next few days and weeks when you reflect and talk to your friends about Adam you can smile at the many happy memories that you have”.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in Adam’s memory and to help his family pay for funeral costs.

It has already raised almost £3,000 with dozens of people leaving their tributes to Adam.

Keli Smith said: “This breaks my heart. I have 14-year-old boys who knew Adam from Kearsley Academy. I can’t imagine the pain his family are going through right now. Rest in peace little man.”

A tribute to Adam is planned to take place at 3pm on Tuesday, June 9 at the bridge in Clifton Country Park.
