LAND earmarked for a major development in Prestwich has finally been secured by a developer.
Blueprints for 124 homes were approved for part of the former Mount Heath industrial estate back in late 2017.
Bosses at Bellway Homes, the company which obtained the planning consent, have now confirmed the purchase of an 11-acre plot
Sales manager Lynne Duxbury said: "Prestwich is a hugely desirable residential area and we are thrilled to have acquired land on George Street for a new development.
"The plans for The Mount look superb and we are looking forward to getting started on site."
The firm says it has also pledged to make a number of financial contributions to the community as a result of the scheme, including a £354,000 payout towards recreation facilities.
Councillors backed the scheme but were anxious to know whether affordable homes would be provided on the site.
Part of the original consent also included employment space.
