A SOUTHAMPTON man found dead in a city park drowned it has been revealed.

The body of Sol Hemy was found in the water at Riverside Park, Southampton last September.

Police said a post-mortem examination had concluded that the 20-year-old died from drowning.

Meanwhile, a suspect has been told he will not be charged with murdering Sol of Sholing.

Police have reported that the 28-year-old suspect from Gosport would not face a murder charge and a file had been prepared for the coroner.

Officers rushed to the scene when gunshots were heard in River Walk on September 5 last autumn.

They found an abandoned Jeep and more than 100 cannabis plants in a house.

Following a search of Riverside Park, officers found Sol's body in the River Itchen at around 6.30am.

According to police, Sol's death was "unexplained" and detectives have not said if the incidents are linked.

They report that a 28-year-old man from Gosport had been served with a postal requisition.

He will appear in court later this year to face a charge of dangerous driving.

Police previously charged a 17-year-old boy and three men - all from Southampton - with conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and conspiracy to possess a firearm.

Robert Johnston, 24, of Tennyson Avenue; Fardeen Hamidy, 26, of Bursledon Road; Christy Flaherty, 26, of Malmesbury Road; and the teenager who cannot be named - are due to appear at Southampton Crown Court in May.

Mr Flaherty is also accused of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
