TWO weeks ago shots were fired on a road in Halliwell late at night and it was sealed off until the next day as officers investigated.

Police were called to Battenberg Road at around 10.25pm on Thursday, March 26 and found a red Kia and a black Vauxhall Corsa had been damaged after gunshots were fired.

No-one was reported to have been hurt.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers examined material at the scene which show "numerous shots" were fired.

In the wake of the shooting, Halliwell councillor Linda Thomas has expressed her concerns about the incident and its effect on residents.

She also pointed out that it acts as an example that crime will still continue even when the UK is on lockdown, which took place only three days before the shooting.

Cllr Thomas said: "There could have been a lot more people involved in this situation ā€“ it is worrying.

"It shows that this sort of criminality is going on when everyone else is suffering and on lockdown.

"I am concerned.

"The vast majority of people in Halliwell are decent people.

"They must have been frightened when it happened.

"I hope we do not have any more incidents like this."

With the crime scene surrounded by terraced houses, Cllr Thomas is also aware that a large number of residents would have been alerted by the shots that night.

Bolton North East MP Mark Logan has offered his support to people who live in the area.

He added: ā€œIā€™m aware of the incident on Battenberg Road in Halliwell and invite any concerned residents to get in contact with either Bolton North Police, or email me on mark.logan.mp@parliament.uk."

GMP has said that no arrests have been made but the force is "following up several lines of enquiries".
