A BREATHTAKING art installation based on the universe will open at West Kirby's Marine Lake tonight.

Constellations presents Studio Joanie Lemercier will take place from tonight (Friday, October 18) to October 20 and will create an immersive experience to transport audiences through the universe and stars by using sound and light which is then projected onto a huge water screen.

The free installation, which will be best seen from the south side of Marine Lake next to West Kirby Sailing Club, will run every 30 minutes from 7pm with a final performance at 9.30pm.

French artist Lemercier has made it his mission to expand the possibilities of light and space over the last 10 years.

His 3D-esque visuals allow audiences to travel from the heart of a black hole into deep space, exploring planets and stars.

This installation is supported with electronic soundscapes from producer Paul Jebanasam.

Cllr Christine Spriggs, cabinet member for culture and tourism told the Globe: “This is going to be a phenomenal experience for Wirral residents and visitors from across the city region.

"We’re excited to be working with our neighbouring boroughs again on this project which has been inspired by our Borough of Culture themes and will encourage everyone to look to the skies.

"West Kirby Marine Lake is a beautiful location, and it will be a wonderful setting for this extraordinary installation.”

Constellations presents Studio Joanie Lemercier is the first commission as part of a Liverpool City Region wide project designed to inspire local communities to rediscover their neighbourhoods and spend time stargazing.

There will be similar installations in Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton, Halton and Knowsley over the coming weeks.
