A MAN accused of murdering an 11-month-old baby in Radcliffe last week has made his first appearance at Manchester Crown Court.
During a short hearing, with Zak Eko appeaing via a video link from custody, he spoke only to confirm his name, address and nationality.
He is charged with murdering his son, Zakari William Bennett-Eko. Shortly before 4.25pm on Wednesday police were called to reports that a child was in the River Irwell near to Blackburn Street in Radcliffe. The baby later died.
At today's hearing no pleas were entered. A further hearing will be held on December 20, when Eko, aged 22, of no fixed address, is expected to enter a plea and the Honorary Recorder of Manchester, Judge David Stockdale QC agreed to a provisional trial date being listed for March 9 next year.
