- - An 11-month-old baby boy has died after being thrown into the River Irwell
- - A murder investigation is underway and 22-year-old man is in custody
- - Emergency services were scrambled to the scene, off Blackburn Road, just after 4.30pm yesterday
- - Baby was pulled from the river and given specialist treatment but died a short time later
- - Detectives are urging any witnesses to get in touch “as a matter of urgency”
- - Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8797 or 101 quoting incident number 1930 of 11/09/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
- - They also believe the incident may have been captured on video.
- Witnesses with photographs or videos are asked to sent them to a GMP Dropbox at scd.cctv@gmp.police.
