An investigation has been launched after a woman was attacked in Prestwich .
A man allegedly approached the victim before launching an attack close to Our Lady of Grace RC Church, in Fairfax Road, shortly after 6am this morning.
Officers say no arrests have yet been made in connection to the incident.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly after 6am, police were called to Our Lady of Grace RC Church where a man approached a woman and assaulted her.
"There have been no arrests and enquiries are still ongoing."
An eyewitness, posting on the Original Prestwich People Facebook page, said they heard a "large glass smash" before a man walked across the road and punched the woman in the face.
They added that the woman then fled the scene, while the man was reported to have remained in the area close to the church.
