WHEN Durham Youth Theatre will be staging a taster session for children as it enters its thirteenth season.

Amongst its previous musical productions have been The Wizard of Oz, Jack and the Beanstalk, Bugsy Malone, Sleeping Beauty, Oliver and, its most recently show, Footloose.

The Youth Theatre was established in 2007 with the aim of giving youngsters the chance to perform two staged shows each year.

Musical Director, Yzen Eng, said: “It’s been a wonderful twelve years so far and we’ve had some lovely kids with much talent performing with us.

“Being a relatively small theatre there’s always been a very friendly family atmosphere, which makes rehearsals such a pleasure. It’s definitely been a big challenge to put on two shows every year on a very tight budget but somehow we’ve mangaged it I’m very much looking forward to our next project which will be Aladdin in January.”

The taster session will be held at Belmont Parish Hall, Broomside Lane, Belmont, Durham, from 11am to 1pm on Saturday.

Children aged from seven to 16 are invited to go along and sample some of the theatre’s fun activities including drama and dance – all for free. For further details contact 0191-377 8660.
