A YOUNG boy has been taken to hospital with "significant injuries" after being knocked from his bike in Prestwich.
Police and ambulances were called to Bury New Road, close to Kings Road, just after 1pm to reports that a child on a bike had been hit by a white van.
The young boy, approximately 11-years-old, has been taken to a major trauma centre after suffering serious injuries in the crash.
Bury New Road has been closed in both directions between Scholes Lane and Singleton Road while emergency services deal with the incident, which is still ongoing.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.09pm. We have taken a patient to Manchester Royal Infirmary. We attended with an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.
"He was taken to a major trauma centre with significant injuries."
Ambulances were at the scene for around 40 minutes.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at 1.15pm to reports of a collision between a cyclist and a car.
"A child has been involved in a collision with a white van.
"The child has been taken to hospital."
