A COMMUNITY is preparing for a revived fun run and summer fair.

The Lanchester Partnership will be staging the event at Burnopeside Hall, near Lanchester, from 10am to 2pm, on Sunday June 23.

Partnership Michelle Atkinson said: "This is the second year we are holding this event.

“The fun run will be open from 11am to 1pm and people can do as many laps as they want of a half kilometre course as they want to.

"Money raised on the day from the run and summer fair will go to the Lanchester Partnership and to keep the event running in future years."

The event will feature a host of events including the Consett Rugby Club and the Lanchester Tennis Club staging demonstrations and activities, from 10am to 2pm.

There will also be side shows, such as hook-a-duck, a coconut shy, inflatable and book stalls.

Ms Atkinson said: “The inaugural event last year attracted about 250 runners. The event was organised to replace the fun run that used to happen in the village many years ago.

"The Lanchester Lions folded and we lost quite a few community events, as a result.

“The aim is to try and regenerate the events held many years ago.”

There will be no parking on the site.

Visitors are invited to park at St Bede’s School where there will be a shuttle transport service to the event. Admission to the event is free.

Admission for the race is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children on the day. There are still about 100 places left for the race.
