The RSPCA rescued a doe deer who managed to get herself well and truly stuck between metal fence railings in Bury.
Wednesday's unusual emergency was triggered by a man who was hanging out washing in his garden in Parkside Walk at 8am. When he heard some noises he went to investigate and discovered the trapped deer.
She had managed to get her head and upper body through the tight gap but was unable to get her pelvis to follow. The position she was in meant she was unable to back her way out of the railings.
The RSPCA were alerted and were joined at the scene by a crew from Bury Fire Station.
RSPCA welfare officer Steve Wickham said: "The poor deer was clearly frightened so we worked quickly to free her and within half an hour she was released.
“As soon as the fire service had prised open the bars I was able to help lift her free and she ran off unharmed - which was great to see."
Rick Taylor, of Bury Fire Station said: "It was a first for us and we were delighted the deer was uninjured."
