INTREPID team members from a Bury hotel braved the cold and grey weather this week to take a challenging trek in support of a great cause.

Staff from the Village Hotel Club walked from Blackpool to Bury in aid of The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity — Super Josh.

Setting of at 6am the hikers took a gruelling route back from the coastal town through Preston, Belmont and Bolton, before finally arriving back at the hotel in Waterfold Business Park for some much needed refreshments and a hearty lunch at the hotel's newly refurbished pub and grill.

Michael Dixon, general manager at the Village Hotel Club Bury, said: “The work of The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity is truly admirable, and we are delighted to support them and help rally the community together to raise much needed funds for this fantastic cause.

“Our support of this fantastic charity doesn’t end with the Bury to Blackpool walk. We have a number of activities happening throughout the year to support The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, such as the Pride of Bury Awards Ball and our Christmas Panto, as well as offering complimentary rooms for counselling sessions.”

The challenging walk was part of the Village Hotel Club's new Village Green community initiative which will see hotel staff devote thousands of hours per year to volunteering and supporting community groups and charities.

Super Josh has bee chosen as the Village Hotel Club Bury's charity of the year and is set to benefit from plenty of fundraising initiatives and volunteered man hours given by the hotel and its staff each month.

Dawn Fidler, mother of Joshua Wilson and Founder of The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity said: “It’s fantastic to see local businesses like Village Hotels get behind the challenge and help give us a platform to spread our message.

"With their fundraising and ongoing support, we can continue to provide much-needed support for children and their families who have brain tumours or are experiencing post-surgery disabilities.”
