POLICE have launched an investigation after a body was discovered in the water at a major canal-side development.

Officers set up crime scene tape around the Media City Metrolink stop in Salford Quays after a dead body of a man was found at around midday.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and it is currently being treated as unexplained by police.

Several police vehicles arrived and specialist officers were called to carry out forensic investigations at the scene.

Fire crews were also called and around three fire engines attended the scene.

Despite its proximity to the Metrolink stop, the crime scene is not affecting public transport in Manchester.

The scene has since been closed and forensic work and further enquiries are carried out to establish the man's identity and cause of death.

Police have urged anyone with information about the body to come forward.

Anyone who knows anything about the situation or has information that could help police should contact a representative from GMP on 101 and give incident number 937 of 22/04/19, which is specific to this case.

Alternatively, reports can also be made anonymously by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
