METROLINK passenger face major disruption this weekend due to engineering works.

Improvements are to be carried out across the network over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, resulting in closures on the Bury line.

No services will operate on the Bury line on Saturday and Sunday, and on Monday services will only run between Piccadilly and Queens Road.

There will also be no services between Exchange Square and Monsall on the Rochdale line on Saturday and Sunday.

A bus replacement service will be in operation to all stops in both directions from the following stations:

- Bury

- Radcliffe

- Whitefield

- Besses o' th' Barn

- Prestwich

- Heaton Park

- Bowker Vale

- Crumpsall

- Abraham Moss

- Queens Road

- Victoria

- Shudehill

- Piccadilly Gardens

- Central Park

- Monsall

- St Peters Square

- Deansgate-Castlefield

Full information about the bus replacement services can be found on Transport for Greater Manchester's travel advice page.

The disruption is likely to cause chaos to the thousands of people travelling to Bury and Manchester for the many events scheduled for the Bank Holiday — including the sold out clash between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur and the St George's Day Parade.

However Metrolink bosses say combining the improvement works enables them to keep disruption to a minimum.

The works include upgrades in preparation for the new Trafford Park line, set to open in 2020.

The new line will increase the frequency of services between Manchester city centre and Crumpsall, Abraham Moss and Queens Road.

Head of Metrolink, Danny Vaughan, said: “By combining a number of essential upgrades over the Easter weekend we’re able to minimise the overall disruption to the network.

“We’re urging passengers to plan ahead and familiarise themselves with the bus replacement services to ensure they have a smooth and stress-free journey.”
