A VIGIL to remember the victims of the New Zealand terror attacks will be held in Bury tomorrow.
The event will take place in Kay Gardens, next to Bury Interchange, at 2pm, and has been organised by Redvales councillor Tamoor Tariq along with residents Sue Arnold and Ummrana Farooq.
Speakers from multi-faith groups and local councillors will be present, and a minute's silence is planned as people are encouraged to "be one community with one message".
Cllr Tariq said: "It is important that the community comes together to mark the tragic attack that took place and that Bury stands side by side with victims and their families and friends at this difficult time."
A white supremacist gunman attacked two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, resulting in the deaths of 50 people on Friday.
More than 1,000 students from Christchurch schools and different religions have taken part in a vigil to honour the lives lost in the New Zealand city.
In a park across from the Al Noor mosque, where dozens were killed, the students sat on the grass in Monday’s fading daylight, lifting flickering candles to the sky as they sang a traditional Maori song.
Hundreds then stood to perform a passionate, defiant haka, the famed ceremonial dance of the indigenous Maori people.
