PATIENTS in Bury will see more online GP services in the future.

In the next two years work more and more GP services will be available online including booking appointments, access to records, ordering repeat prescriptions and even consultations with a doctor or nurse.

Councillors were told about the plans by the Bury GP Federation during a presentation on extended working hours of GPs at the health scrutiny committee on Tuesday evening.

Martin Clayton, chief officer of the federation also explained the government is asking GPs to break down barriers between practices and work more collaboratively instead of acting as "independent businesses" as they have in the past.

Mr Clayton said: "I think that will be a good thing."

This is already underway in Bury as part of a health and social care merger. The borough has been divided into five neighbourhoods where all kinds of health and care services will work together with the aim of providing a more joined up service to the public.
