DEHAVILAND maintained their Bolton At Home Sunday League Division One title challenge with a 6-1 victory over Breightmet Wanderers.

After a tight first half saw the third-placed Farnworth side go into the break 1-0 up, they turned on the style with a super second-half show.

Craig Sloan's goal proved the difference in the first half, slipping his marker and making no mistake with only the goalkeeper to beat on 30 minutes.

Dehaviland doubled their lead only 30 seconds into the second half when midfielder Jay Manion coolly slotted into the corner of the net.

Within two minutes it was 3-0 through Owen Alison, but Breightmet pulled one back in the fifth minute of a goal-laden start to the second half, Craig McClelland scoring the goal of the day with a stunning drive into the top corner from 35 yards.

Breightmet's hopes of getting back into the game were severely dented on the hour when Dehaviland captain Kieron Marsh beat two men and put in a wicked cross which a defender turned into his own goal trying to clear.

Jay Manion's second of the game and a Jon-Paul Caruna goal completed the rout to keep the pressure on Top Club and Newbury in the title race.

Second-placed Newbury also won, beating the much-improved Nelson Wanderers 5-2 at New House Farm to close the gap on leaders Top Club who did not have a game.

An even first half saw the deadlock broken in the 35th minute with a sublime finish by Newbury’s Steve Ward.

Nelson drew level thanks to an excellent effort from John Girling from the first attack of the second half, but the goal only seemed to lift Graham Sharples’ Newbury side who produced a excellent performance with some enthralling football.

They restored their lead on the hour with ever-reliable centre-forward Dominic Sharples firing home.

Two goals in the next 10 minutes from Ward and Sam Bradley made it 4-1 before a good finish by Jordan Byrne New pulled it back to 4-2 five minutes from time.

Anthony Highway had the final word with Newbury's fifth goal at the death.

At the other end of the table, Grapes got the better of Bolton Town with a 5-3 victory in the bottom-of-the-table clash.

The win gave Grapes revenge for their opponents knocking them out of the Open Cup.

Town took the lead midway through the first half with a goal by Luke Gilligan.

Grapes equalised five minutes before half time through Josh Spencer and went ahead four minutes later with a goal by Asa Jones.

Jones made it 3-1 against the run of play with a stunning drive into the bottom corner from the the edge of the box.

An excellent finish by Steve Quinn reduced the arrears to 3-2 to spark an end-to-end affair with both sides going all out for the crucial next goal.

It went to Grapes when Cole Campbell nodded in from a corner.

But Bolton Town were far from done, and hit back immediately with a fine finish by striker John Yates who made it 4-3.

And with Town going all out for an equaliser, Campbell settled the game in the last minute with his second as he converted defender Thomas Coan's excellent cross.
