A NEW Year's Day drink driver has been electronically tagged and given an 8pm to 6am curfew for six weeks.

At Manchester Magistrates' Court Missam Abbas, aged 32, of First Avenue, Tottington, pleaded guilty to having drunk more than twice the legal alcohol limit when he drove a Toyota Yaris on Peel Brow, Ramsbottom. He was also banned from driving for 23 months and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole cosmetics and clothing worth £145 from TJ Hughes in Bury on Christmas Eve has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months by Manchester magistrates.

Lucie Ginova, aged 39, of Borough Avenue, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty and was also ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Her co-accused, Jan Turek, aged 50, of the same address, also admitted thefts from B and M Bargains and going equipped to steal.

He was ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work and pay £20 in compensation plus £85 towards prosecution costs.

MAGISTRATES have banned a man from the roads for 12 months after he admitted drink driving in a VW Golf on Blenmar Close, Radcliffe, on January 3. Waleed Hussain, aged 24, of Alfred Street, Bury, was also fined £279 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

DRINK driver Gary Leonard, aged 62, of Kersal Road, Prestwich, has been fined £80 and banned from holding a licence for 12 months.

He was caught committing the offence in a Fiat Stilo on Agecroft Road, Salford, on January 3 and was also ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

A VANDAL who damaged a woman's living room window in Bury on February 10 has been fined £60 by Manchester magistrates. Charles Jean, aged 33, of no fixed address pleaded guilty and was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation plus £115 in costs and charges.

A SHOPLIFTER who twice stole meat worth a total of more than £270 from Aldi in Bury on December 12 last year has been fined £160 by Manchester magistrates.

Darren Amos, aged 43, of Garnett Street, Ramsbottom, was also told to pay £163.10 in compensation and £115 in costs and charges.

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a woman to a conditional discharge for 12 months after she admitted damaging a man's windows on December 28. Janine Coates, aged 43, of Warwick Street, Prestwich, was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation plus £105 in costs and charges.

A SUSPENDED prison sentence has been handed to a man caught growing cannabis.

Paul Harding, aged 53, of Hulme Street, Bury, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months.

He must also have treatment for alcohol addiction.
