MEET the takeaway laying claim to the healthiest curries in Bolton.

Khanoms, formerly Curry Korner, in Chorley Old Road, made the decision to start cooking up oil-free curries with only natural ingredients before Christmas.

It came after health-conscious owner Abdul Quayum successfully trialled the dishes in his kitchen at home.

Following its rebrand, the takeaway now uses water instead of oil in the cooking process, which means the curries have to be cooked for twice as long.

Mr Quayum said that the decision was a ‘risk’, but one he hopes will reap rewards in the long-run for both business and customer.

He added: “It is a big challenge for me. I care about my health, and I exercise every day, but you cannot just do exercise and eat junk food.

“Oil does not dissolve in your body, and it causes big problems with cholesterol.

“Hopefully, people will now be able to have one of our curries several times a week and not feel guilty.

“I think these oil-free curries will be revelation. I have never heard of anywhere else doing them.”

As well as priding itself on avoiding artificial food colouring in its dishes, Khanoms also specialises in sugar-free naan breads.

However, eagle-eyed punters may notice that the takeaway is not completely oil-free just yet, for they still require a fryer to cook chips in, although Mr Quayum has plans get rid of it in the coming months.

“It’s going really well so far,” he said. “People are enjoying it. If this becomes established then my ambition is to expand all across Bolton.”
