CONCERNS have been raised over changes made to the flood defence wall that is planned for Close Park in Radcliffe.

The wall is part of a scheme designed to protect homes in the event of future flooding.

Chair of Radcliffe & Redvales Flood Action Group has questioned the change in material for the defence in Close Park — from stone to timber.

Colette Jones‎ said: “Although it is good that we are at the planning stage, it is disappointing that the EA and Bury Council have backtracked on the type of cladding being used to cover the defences.

“Residents were given the option to choose and selected stone but now Radcliffe residents are being told they have to make do with the cheapest option, wood, because the stone option is too expensive and will take the project over budget. I question if this would happen it we lived in Windsor or one of the leafy suburbs of Cheshire.

“The EA say they will maintain the wood as they will have a legal duty to do so.”

Mrs Jones also raised concerns about the times at which the meetings have been held. She called for these to take place on Saturdays, when more could attend.

However, she praised the EA for keeping residents informed and holding regular meetings.
