THE Met will play host to a two-night residency from Sheffield singer-songwriter Richard Hawley in the New Year.

The two-time Mercury Prize nominee will return to Bury on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 February as part of Independent Venue Week.

It comes after two sell-out intimate shows at the 400-capacity venue earlier this year.

Last year’s gigs featured Richard alongside his long-term guitarist Shez Sheridan, and saw him perform a range of tracks from his seven album career.

The 51-year-old has enjoyed huge critical and commercial success as a solo artist, following a career as a guitarist with indie acts including Longpigs and Pulp.

He was first nominated for the coveted Mercury Prize in 2006 for his third studio album Coles Corner, but was beaten to it by the Arctic Monkeys.

He has since gone on to collaborate with his Steel City counterparts, as well as other artists, including Paul Weller and The Manic Street Preachers.
